Hi Michael,

so finally the pickup arrived in four days in a perfect package.

As an acoustic doubler who loves the natural sound of his instrument
captured through a condenser mic, I was really sceptical to give a try
to your magnetic pickup on my electric upright bass.
But I needed to find out new sounds specifically from my EUB.

Now I can say your magnetic pickup for Double Bass is a great unit.
I fixed it in a hurry at the bottom of the fretboard of my Biarnel
Stico electric upright and its dimensions fit perfectly the width and
the overall profile.

The PU is well built, very stable, with balanced and airy signal among
the strings, deadly silent even in proximity of my amp or under stage
lights thanks to its split coils, so I’ve found it’s a bless both live
and in studio sessions: the sound in my opinion is simply awesome, and
it seems even to retain the “thickness” from the small acoustic
chambers of my instrument.

After a lot of trials with piezo and contact mics I think your
magnetic pickup is a smart and compact solution to give a try to, in
particular for EUB owners who want to avoid thin, compressed or
booming sounds, or even to smooth unwanted scretches with fingers
along the fretboard when recording.

It can be also an effective device for acoustic doublers who want
definitely defeat feedback on the battle ground or to cut better
through noisy mix.

i played last night in new york city w/ the pickup and it was absolutely awesome! the bass was clear, easy to control and i was able to get more of that bottom end/stage presence that the band and i always missed when i used the upright with just a piezo.
i've got the pickup as close to the strings as i can without it touching when i play high register, but i still have to work my amp a little harder to get the volume i'm used to. that's okay though... now i have an exuse to buy a bigger amp head ;-)
you've built a pretty cool thing! i can't wait to see what happens with it tonight!

i just wanted to let you know i've used your pickup about a dozen times now and it is fantastic!
i've used it indoors, outdoors, in small bars, on large stages - even in a baseball stadium! - and everywhere i've been it's acted flawlessly, giving my bass the round, low end i need for the full 'rock band bass' tone as well as offering some of the characteristics of my bass.
sure, i'd rather hear my bass unplugged or just with the piezo for trueness of tone, but for the high volume, rock situations i'm playing in this is exactly what i needed and i'm in complete control of everything.

thanks again, michael. i'll be sure to let other bassists know about it, too!

I think you remember me, I'm the french guy who have ordered a custom pickup few month ago...
And I've finished my bass now.
This email is just to thank you for this great work, because the sound of my bass is awesome (never expected it to be so good), very massive low end, and clear too. The strings balance is perfect, everywhere on the neck.
I also use the pickup with a "MXR octave bass" pedal, and it works better than on my electric bass !

Profibassist Chr. Niemann:

Seit 3 Jahren spiele ich mit dem Magnet-Pickup von Michael Zadow und
bin davon restlos begeistert.Er lässt für mich keine Wünsche offen,da
er sowohl bei pizzicato als auch bei arco alle Frequenzen sauber überträgt und auch bei großer Lautstärke keine Rückkopplung entsteht.
Ich benutze ihn in der “Bigband der Deutschen Oper Berlin” und in verschiedenen Combobesetzungen (u.a.”Triologic”) und in meiner bisher fast 40jährigen Praxis als Kontrabassist habe ich noch keinen besseren Pickup finden können.

Im Bestellformular gibt es eine Skizze, die man ausfüllen sollte und nach der Michael Zadow den Pickup passend für den jeweiligen Bass einrichtet.
